Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of developing International Standards is carried out through ISO technical committees. Every member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been authorized has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work.
Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for approval before their acceptance as International Standards by the ISO Council.
International Standard ISO 7294 was developed by Technical Committee ISO/TC 29, Small tools, and was circulated to the member bodies in May 1982.
It has been approved by the member bodies of the following countries:

1 Scope and field of application
This International Standard provides a terminology of elements of the profile shape of saw teeth for woodworking and establishes a designation system for the profile shape of saw teeth.
It is not intended to standardize certain tooth types.
This International Standard deals with saw blades for hand saws or machine saws for woodworking.
The designation system established in this International Standard is not applicable to saw blades with hard metal tips.
Annex A gives the English terms defined in this International Standard, listed in alphabetical order, and the equivalent French terms.
NOTE — In addition to the terms given in two of the three official ISO languages (English and French), this International Standard gives the equivalent terms in Italian in annex C; these have been included at the request of Technical Committee ISO/TC 29, and are published under the responsibility of the member body for Italy (UNI). However, only the terms given in the official languages can be considered as ISO terms.
