Introduction
This International Standard provides sufficient terms and definitions relevant to springs to facilitate the discussion of springs among designers, manufacturers and users of springs. The terms identified in this International Standard are applicable to technical documentation for springs.
Terms and definitions from ISO 2162-3 that have not been modified are reproduced in this International Standard.
Certain terms and definitions from ISO 4885 are reproduced in this International Standard.
Terms for materials are not defined in this International Standard to avoid duplication and/or conflict with other International Standards on materials. Terms for non-metallic springs are not within the scope of ISO/TC 227.
Figures relating to the terms are given in Annex A and the grouping of terms is given in Annex B, in order to heighten the understanding of these terms. In particular, the grouping puts the new terms in systematic order.
