Introduction
This part of ISO 4046 defines terms, in English and French, related to paper-making. It is part of the ISO 4046 series of standards, which document the terminology of paper, board, pulp and related terms.
The layout of this standard is based on ISO 10241:1992.
The following information will facilitate the use of this part of ISO 4046.
- a) Entry items are listed in alphabetical order of the English terms. The equivalent French term is listed in the adjacent column.
- b) In order to prepare the index for the ISO 4046 series of standards (ISO 4046-1), entry items are numbered 3.X ここで, “3.” indicates that the term is located in this part of ISO 4046, i.e. ISO 4046-3, and “X” is the entry number.
- c) Each entry item is structured as follows (but does not necessarily include all of these elements):

f) If a given term designates more than one concept, these are treated as separate entities and are differentiated by a number in brackets which follows the preferred term.
g) English spellings are based on the Concise Oxford Dictionary (Oxford University Press).
This part of ISO 4046 was prepared by Working Group 6 of Technical Committee 6 (ISO/TC 6/WG 6). This Working Group is concerned with terminology related to paper, board and pulps.
